VACUUM GAUGE TEST PROCEDURE
To check the operating performance of water pumps:
Place a garden hose in the discharge port of the water pump. Turn water on and allow water to run while performing this test.
When the pump housing is full of water, start the engine and verify the engine rpms are correct. With engine running and pump housing full of water, place vacuum gauge over suction port of pump and run for a minimum of one minute to allow vacuum pressure to develop.
For most pumps, the gauge should read a minimum of 15lbs. for satisfactory performance. If less than 15lbs vacuum, your pump may need maintenance.
NOTE: It requires one pound of vacuum to pull water up one foot; 20lbs vacuum will pull water up 20ft. Remember, poor suction hose connections can affect the performance of the pump. (IE: Defective O-rings, pinholes in suction hose and loose connections)
